What Is 3M Color Stable 20?

3M Color Stable 20 is a darker shade in the 3M Color Stable automotive window-film family. It is not a “50% VLT ceramic film”; that wording mixed up product family, nominal shade and finished glazing performance.

Published Reference Performance

In 3M reference data for Color Stable applied to Auto 75 automotive glass, Color Stable 20 is listed at approximately 15% VLT, 60% TSER, 99% UV block, 79% glare reduction and 61% infrared energy rejection. These are typical reference values for the stated glass and test method, not universal installed results.

VLT vs TSER

VLT describes visible light transmitted through the filmed glass; TSER describes total solar energy rejected. A shade number does not directly state the final vehicle-window VLT because factory glass changes the combined result.

Privacy and Visibility

Color Stable 20 produces a darker appearance than Color Stable 35 or 50 in comparable glazing. The correct choice depends on outward visibility, privacy preference, glass position and the vehicle’s existing glass.
