What 3M Ceramic Coating does
Car Cool applies 3M Ceramic Coating, the professional coating 3M supplies to installers (part 39901). 3M describes it as a siloxane polymer blend.
Gloss and water beading
Once cured, the surface is harder to wet, so water beads off and the paint looks deeper.
Easier washing
Dust and road film have less to hold on to, so washing needs less contact.
Everyday contamination
Added resistance to road film, dust, bird droppings and water spotting.
What it will not do
A coating does not stop stone chips and does not remove swirl marks. The 9H on some bottles is a pencil hardness rating, not scratch-proofing.
Where it goes
Paint and PPF
3M Ceramic Coating can go on paint and on paint protection film, so it pairs well with 3M PPF on the front of the car.
Trim, lights, wheels and glass
It can also go on vinyl wrap, trim, headlights and wheels, and on glass with 3M Glass PreTreatment.
How we apply it
We measure the paint
A paint thickness gauge and inspection lights show where there is enough clear coat to work with.
We decontaminate
Chemical, then mechanical decontamination removes what washing leaves behind.
We correct the paint
Paint correction is done only where the clear coat allows it, because most of the result comes from preparation.
We coat and cure
3M says to apply above 16°C and keep the car out of contact with water for at least 4 hours after application.
Ceramic coating or PPF?
A coating adds gloss and makes washing easier. It does not stop stone chips. For chip protection you need paint protection film.
Many owners combine both: 3M PPF on the front and 3M Ceramic Coating over the rest. See 3M PPF.

3M states 3M Ceramic Coating is durable for up to five years with proper care and maintenance. Real life depends on preparation, exposure, wash method and maintenance.
When can I wash the car?
3M says to keep the car out of contact with water for at least 4 hours after application. We give you the aftercare steps at handover.
Does it stop scratches and stone chips?
No. A coating adds gloss and easier cleaning. For stone chips, choose 3M paint protection film.
Do you come to my home or office?
No. All work is done at our Deira workshop. Customers from every emirate are welcome.
